What does it mean to have?
When we ourselves are not ours.
What is the meaning of loss?
When we actually find a lot when we lose, and vice versa, we lose a lot when we find.
What is love?
When we cry hurt over feelings that should be beautiful? How is it possible, we sat heartbroken over something that was supposed to be sacred and not demanding anything?
O, isn’t there a lot of longing when we want to forget? And not a desire to forget when we were homesick? To miss and forget the distance as thin as a thread. “
This novel is about a sad past. About hatred for someone who should be loved. About losing a lover’s heart. About true love. About hypocrisy. Five stories in a long journey of longing.
This novel has a setting in 1938, era, when Indonesia wasn’t yet independent. A Blitar Holland ship, beginning its journey from the port of Makassar to Mecca, brought a group of pilgrims. I’m very like this novel, at least I know how the struggles of ancient times when people went on Hajj.
The characters in this novel are also interesting, such as Gurutta Ahmad Karaeng, Ambo Uleng, Captain Philips, Daeng Andipati, Mbah Putri, Mbah Kakung, Ruben, Chef Lars, Bonda Upe, and the adorable kids Elsa and Anna, two younger siblings who are also with his parents(Daeng Andipati)
go on pilgrimage. Each characters in this story have their own problems from their past, wich is solved one by one when they are sail to Mecca. This nover is very intresting, make people who read it want to keep read more and more.
