Dressing up properly is very important for us men. It's an opportunity to be creative and make a good impression to our friends or to our colleagues at work. Fashions in itself is a method of self expression. So it can be very challenging sometimes to pick an outfit to wear. Start from the upper part of your body to the tipy toes of your body. It is embarrassing to wear a suit that either too big or too small. There are some secret to wear a suit, for example understanding how it's meant to fit your body. Here's a solution for you, how to dress up and choose the right outfit for formal occasions.
First, Fit is key. Doesn't matter what brand you wear and how much it cost, if it doesn't fit you is not the best suit for you. There are some men that wear a suit that is one size too big and the suit flop over the natural shoulder. You can always easily check if the suit fits you or not, you can go up against the wall and see if there is any fold fabric in between the natural shoulder and the suit. If the suit has any fold fabric in between that then your suit is too big. If the shoulder hit the wall first, then your suit is too tight because it is very important to wear a suit and you able to move your arm around freely without worrying about the suit tearing apart the fabric
Make sure the fit at the stomach is right. To check that, you can put your hand in the suit between the button inside the dress shirt, if you feel like your hand is too cramped then it’s an indication that your suit is too small for you, or if there is a lot of space in there your suit is likely too big for you.
Second, make sure the length of the sleeve is right. You want to be comfortable showing at least a quarter (1/4) to half (1/2) an inch of your shirt under your suit. This has to be made by a tailor, because anatomically our body length is different in one and another. We’re not symmetrical. One arm can be longer than the other. You want your sleeve to fall somewhere between your wrist area. You can ask the tailor to measure your body length so the suit can fit you perfectly
Third, for the suit pants make sure the waist of the pants fits you right. Find your natural waist by placing your three fingers right below your belly button. The pants should fit perfectly there. Don't let them fall or sink down either. Your suit pants should fit comfortably without the need for a belt. In fact, i think the best quality of suit pants are made without the belt loops. It is made out of hinges and attachments on the sides so that we can adjust the pants to our desire.Length of the pants can be varies, you can go for a no break, a half break or a full break. Personally the best length falls between a half break or a no break at all, if you go with the full break, sometime you get that ugly crease in your shins and doesn’t make the overall look flattering.
Fourth, choose some details that can make your overall have personality. The lapels, there are three most popular variations of lapel. First, you have the Notch Lapel which is the classic one you see on most suits. Then you have the Peak lapel which is a little bit formal and a little bit flashier. Then you have the Shawl Lapel which is the traditional one that you wear at more formal events, like an award shows or galas. If you feel like one of these fit your style and personality, then don’t be afraid to try it, give it a go and see if it works with your outfit.
The Buttons, there are two types the single breasted and the double breasted. We are going to dig into the single breasted only and leaving the double-breasted suit behind. The important thing to remember is do not button the bottom button, the right thing to do is go with the two buttons. Good quality button has functioning or working buttons. Functioning buttons have a medical history. They used to be called surgeons buttons, because when surgeons want to get to the operating room, they would unbutton their sleeves, roll them up and go to work.
The Vents, the back of your suit that is as important as the other details. There are three options you can go with. You have no vented, a single vent down the middle of the suit, or you have the double vents on the sides. You should go with the double vents because when you sit down the flap in the middle covers your bottom and doesn’t make you look like a fool. Also, it reduces creased fabric.
As you already know dressing up isn't that easy, you can mess things up. So in order to fix that, you have to know a few things that can help you improve your fashion. Now, you won't make the same mistake again. If you are getting the first suit, you should definitely get a suit that can be multi-purpose. If you already have a few suits and looking to buy more, then there’s two things you should really focus on. That is your skin tone and the season. You can start off by getting a quality collection of basic shirts first and then you can start exploring and finding what best and what works for you.
