Is it true that true love is worth more than a friend?Soman Chainani
Soman Chainani successfully write such an amazing fantasy series “School For Good and Evil”. Beside that in this book Iacopo Bruno has successfully presented beautiful illustrations in this book. The popularity of this series make this series translated into several languages across six continents. The School for Good and Evil: A World without Princes is the sequel from the first book. In this book Soman Chainani has created a spectacular masterpiece. Because of its popularity, New York Times make this book as bestseller list. One of the interesting things from this book is the concept of Women’s and Men’s Schools. The genre of this novel not only fantasy but complete with romance, adventure, and humor that will keep you turning pages until 512 pages. I read the Indonesian version that publish by Bhuana Sastra, and I think Kartika Sofyan and Yanyan Wijaya has done a good job as a language translator and cover designer.
The School for Good and Evil: A World without Princes tell the story after the first book. Sophie and Agatha had returned to Gavaldon, living their version of “happily ever after”. However, life isn’t quite the fairy tale they expected. Agatha secretly hoped that she would choose another happy ending with her prince. Because agatha’s hopes, she reopened the door to the School of Good and evil. Unexpectedly, the world she once knew with Sophie turned out to have changed. Witches and princesses, warlocks and princes, are no longer enemies. A new bond has formed, destroying the old relationship. But behind this complicated relationship between Good and Evil, war is being prepared. A very dangerous enemy is hidden behind a face mask they know. When Agatha and Spohie struggle to restore peace, an unexpected threat can destroy everything and everyone they love. this time, the threat came from within themselves.
From the cover, I like how the publisher does not replace the foreign cover of this book. Although usually covers that have been adapted “not as attractive” as the original one. As for the story itself, In this story Agatha and Sophie seemed to want to reconstruct who was prioritized. Friend or true love? The second thing that was deeply rooted in Agatha’s heart and she should chose one. I like the conflict presented here. I’m very impressed with Soman’s ability to support what actually happened at the School of Good and Evil. In my opinion, the contents of the story are pretty neat. In terms of character, actually I’m a little bit disappointed with agatha’s changing character. But, I like the development of Tedros and Sophie’s character. Both of the character are still consistent. Well, I think that Soman is trying to make this book plot twisted and unpredictable. In addition, there are more things that make me want to continue reading this story.
Of course, reading the second book in The School for Good and Evil series makes me want to read the third book in this series. Besides that, the ending presented by Soman in this second book is quite interesting. I am more curious about the next book. Hopefully I can get the third book in this series. For those of you who like fantasy stories that are different from usual, I highly recommend this book for you and I’m sure you will fall in love with this one.
