Tere Liye is a famous author for his masterpiece at making such a phenomenal story and best-seller novel. One of his book is entitled as Hafalan Shalat Delisa. The background of “Hafalan Shalat Delisa” remains us about tsunami in Aceh. And that’s actually make sense since this novel is adopting the tragedy that hit Indonesia seven years ago. How powerful the disaster was hit Aceh and the sufferings part that people went through that day to figures Delisa and other cast perfectly.
Umi Salamah, who has four daughters, namely is Fatima, Aisha & Zahra twins, as well as the smallest Delisa, with Abi Usman who worked abroad. They lived in Lho Nga beach area. When Delisa will have a test of memorization reading prayers, she continued to memorize it, because if she passed the exam, her mother will buy a necklace with the initials ‘D’.
Delisa was ready to do exams at school by rote prayers to Ustadz Rahman. Her mother was accompanying her while her older sister Fatima, Zahra, and Aisha waiting at home. At the beginning of exams, she remembered the advice from her teacher, to stay focus no matter what happens. Suddenly something very unusual happened, the massive sea waves comes quickly, the people is afraid and running out, but Delisa still doing her prayers.
The disaster devastated the villages along the shore and throwing objects. Delisa is one of the children victims of the disaster. A few days after the incident, Delisa was found by Smith on a hill with a severe condition. After losing everythings including her family and her legs, Delisa is still a cheerfull girl everyone used to know.
There are a lots of moral values we can get from the story . Delisa gave many lessons to the readers, like we got to move on and keep everythings goes on, gratitude, and others. The culture of Aceh also showed so clearly like how religious the people is, and how Tere Liye can visualize the disaster also he can exactly deliver the images of how terrifying the tragedy was. But, he sometimes using an unfamiliar words that could makes us confuse or mis-interpreting. But, in generally I would recommend this novel to everyone who loves a heart-touching yet terrifying story.
